I am sure back when OOT was released, my parents had it preordered for christmas for me, and when it came I am sure it was on a gold cart rather than the normal grey one released in europe. Wikipedia mentions that this happened, but gives no more details. How rare is this copy (which i daftly sold along with the rest of my N64 colection a while back), and how much is it worth?

For clarification I am not talking about:
-Any NTSC Zelda version
-The australian OOT release, which was gold
-Majoras mask, which was gold in europe

Only the Zelda Ocarina of Time European Pal Version

Actual text for the curious:

The first two Zelda games released for the NES had golden cartridges, rather than the standard grey-colored cartridges used for almost every other licensed game for the console. Keeping with the tradition, pre-ordered copies of Ocarina of Time were also golden. Also, the box cover had a thick, plastic card glued over the original cover. However, this was not the case in Europe where the game had a standard grey-cartridge owing to Nintendo of Europe (although there were actually some gold cartridges, they were only available very briefly). A possible incentive was an economic one, as standard grey cartridges are inexpensive compared to custom made golden models. It should be noted that Australia (which is, like Europe, part of the PAL region) had golden cartridges. Also, the sequel to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, had a golden cartridge in Europe (and in the US).

I'd wager it was probably the very first, intial batch and never any more. In reality I'd say it isn't worth any more than a grey cart. I bought my gold OoT off ebay not too long ago boxed for the same price as a grey one. I have managed to lose it though so I'm in the market for a new one.

Are you cetain it is a european version? From the cart you can tell by the product code - For example:
Lylat Wars (PAL EU) - NUS-NFXP-EUR
Baanjo Kazooie (PAL AUS) - NUS-NBKP-AUS
From the box you can tell by the rating - aus has a G rating in white box on the front, whereas pal has nothing rating wise.

These gold carts for Zelda (the n64 games) were common as dirt in Australia at the 64s peak, I didn't even realise the rest of the world never saw them.
