Japanese are idiots when it comes to brands or something that is deemed amazing (Normally because it cost a lot). Can't say I'm surprised.

Exactly my point, I don't see it either... just that they are from the island of Esashi, Hokkaido, Japan.

When my family lived in Veracruz, which is the most important port in Mexico (and the only city with a Nuclear Plant!), the neighbours across the street were Japanese. Mr Enomoto, according to my mother, would come across the street with two glasses of Whisky to watch Mexican Soap Operas with my dad.
They would buy boxes of Mangos and other tropical fruits, very common in the mexican coast or brought to the port from other parts in Mexico. Tropical fruits were dirt cheap here, but they were, apparently, tremendously huge gifts in 1970s/80s Japan. Probably, they still are.
