Don't start preordering copies or anything yet, because the supposed "winner" has completely disappeared, and has been using false information in his profile and just smells kind of fishy to me. I'm pretty sure the bid is reverting to the $2,500 guy.

HA ! It figures. We got ourselves a comedian.

Despite being known as something of a hardcore fanatic when it comes to unreleased Saturn games, I wasn't informed of this particular auction until after it had already ended. However, now that I am aware of its existence I can't bring myself to be genuinely excited (like if the complete second revision of Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 or the work-in-progress title that later became Shenmue was leaked), because from what I can gather there was never enough actually made of Sonic X-Treme using any of the many engines utilised during its ill-fated production to make something worthwhile. I'll probably still end up getting a copy when it leaks, but the fact is that Sonic X-Treme: The Myth is always going to be superior to Sonic X-Treme: The Game in my opinion...

I have to agree with you there Anthaemia. The Sonic Xtreme that was sold is nothing more than a run & jump demo on a Nights style background. Now, if it was a build that showed all the levels that featured in the Magazines all those years ago then it would have been in my hand as long as it didn't go over 4000 dollars.

Maybe the CD has something else to be discovered, hidden away on the disk? Image

If the supposed winner doesn't reply, I'd suggest there should be another auction for this item. If I understood well, there was somebody willing to offer $5000 before this guy showed up and promised to share it, and more people would have added their cash to the group fund, etc etc.

And I wouldn't like to think the ratman deal was just made up by somebody else who wanted the Sonic fans to stop bidding for it. If he's not real, this would harm both those who wanted it released and the seller, since he's going to make less money from it. =\

And maybe this time the real seller will show up.

I doubt he will. I don't think he wants Sega finding out he has that CD...
