1 Red Light Of Death (Error Code E74)

Hello Everyone. I am pretty damn pissed/scared right now. :crying: Turn on my XBOX, and hello red light! Only the bottom left thing is flashing red, while all others are blank. Awesome.
So it pops up with the warning screen in 50 different languages, and apparently I have Error Code E74.

Quick Google Searching Shows This Info...

Xbox Error Codes said:

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

Ok. So I switched my HDMI Cable to the regular AV Cables... power up.
Red flashing light.
Wonderful.
So I search for fixes. A youtube video states that if you unplug all the cords for 5-30 mins (Big time frame) then re-plug it will work. Ok, why not try since I feel screwed either way.
Nope.

What do I do? I Really dont have the money to buy another 360... but this really blows. 1 year warranties right?...

How do I check how long I have owned it? I ask this because, I traded my original 360 which I purchased in 2006 to one of my friends for his brand new one. But that was awhile ago and I dont know if its been a year yet. So maybe his box still has the warranty?

Please help if you can. No 360 = No Happy.

:crying:

A lot of people wrap them in towels to overheat them on purpose to get the magic three red lights that are covered by the 3 year warranty, instead of the pesky 1 red light.

This is probably a last act of desperation though.

Or you could even try jamming something in the fan

Have you tried just asking him, or is that too difficult? The biggest problem you'll encounter if you're not in contact with your mate anymore is no proof-of-purchase, so unless the manufacturing date is in the last year (written on the back side), you may be out of luck.

A question is though: why exactly did you swap your old one for his new one in the first place?

Try hooking it into a diffrent TV with it on TV not HD mode; It should start. If not unplug for 3-6 minutes then unplug the AV cable. Start back up in the new TV with AV cable in it. I have had this error off and on since I got the 360

keep in mind that such issues ARE covered by the warranty, just not but the fund.

This is caused by the solder on the ANA chip breaking and the chip losing connection with the board, You could try re soldering it to the board or take a bunch of pennys to the chip to keep it positioned in one place.

Also unfortunately Doing the towel method to try to get the RRod only further ruins the situation ass it can permanently damage the board to a non repariable state and usually never even shows the RRod after it gets damaged bad enough.

normal warrenty(non RRod) is 1 year, and the RRod warrenty is 3.So yea.
