BRUSSELS – A ten-year-old girl from Charleroi gave birth to a baby last year. The father was 13.
"The pregnancy was a big surprise to the girl and her mother," says doctor Robert Chef from Charleroi. "The child came to me with unexplained abdominal pain. She had also put on weight. Her mother had even put her on a diet for a while but that had little effect. When we examined her it turned out she was nine months pregnant. The child was carrying a full term baby."
What surprised the doctor the most was that the 10-year-old really looked her age. "Some girls look like a teenager of 15 or 16 at that age. But not this girl."
Still the delivery went smoothly. The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children's ward.
"The father of the baby came to visit her there as well. Many pregnancies in young girls are the result of incest. But that was not at all the case here. The father was a schoolmate of 13. A young guy as well."
Robert Chef says the parents of the girl did not respond angrily. "The grandmother immediately took charge of the baby. She said she would raise it as her own child."
Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control.

when it's done is done. what would have been doing? killing your 10 years old 9 months pregnant daughter? the only solution is to live it over. and teach their daughter something about contraception too i guess

But anyway I think it is too damn early , when a child gives birth to a child. But the grandmother took charge is weird to me. Since it is the parents who has to take charge and get custody, not the granny.
Well, when so much hormone meat is eaten. Then I am not that shocked. Since the last time I read or heard anything weird. Then it was 7 year old girl (who was in Oprah if I remember correct) has hit puberty.

now they do at 10 years old? damn, i waited till 14
the human species is evolving thanks to the stuff we eat i guess. sooner birth also means lower life expectancy in biology. I guess the planet is sick of us living so long thanks to our doctors and medicines and decided to make us live shorter by default

Not that I am condoning this or anything, plus if it happened in the UK it would be deemed rape, but I still suspect that she'll do a far better job and have much more support from loving and caring parents who don't immediately go off on one than most people these days who leave it until they've sorted out their careers and deem children as a style option.
I'm sick to death of seeing these 40+ couples moaning that their biological clocks are ticking down when they clearly decided that a £450,000 house and City Job was far more important.
Not that I am condoning this or anything, plus if it happened in the UK it would be deemed rape, but I still suspect that she'll do a far better job and have much more support from loving and caring parents who don't immediately go off on one than most people these days who leave it until they've sorted out their careers and deem children as a style option.

Last I checked, the value/cost of your residence, nor location of it (assuming you don't live on a nuclear waste site) had anything to do with sterility. I can't quite find a smiley that conveys the utter confusion given to me by the quoted statement.
