No tip from me. People are paid to do a job and that's it. Do I get a tip for working my arse off in the office? No, I don't think so.

I did hear that tips are very popular or almost madatory in the US because people in such service jobs receive very low wages. Is this true?

Yes, in fact, without tips delivery guys and watiers would not make enough, to support themselves.
If I don't tip, they usually make a remark like "what no tip?".
They make minimum wage, just because the tip is expected. So I guess its only fair.

I've only left one bad tip, and it was only because the service was horrible. Granted, it was 2AM, but the lady should have had a better attitude. I had to go up to the bar to get a refill. Next, she left my friend's hashbrowns on the stove.

At this point we were kind of pissed, but together we had a few coins in pocket change, so we shaped a recognizable penis in elegant American curreny (total was less than $1).

Bitch.

They make LESS than the minimum wage. They make the serivce industry min wage which is $2-3/hr

WQhich is why they require tips.

The general rule is that you're supposed to tip at least 15% of what the cost of the meal is. If its a large party of say $10 or more, they automatically tack on 15% tip, which they notify you in the menu in most restaurants I've been to.

Of course, you can be a douchebag and not tip the person, just don't go back there because they'll give you shitty service or even worse....

He probably did it to send some poor girl to college.

Having a lot of money isn't as fun as it seems, to some people
it's just lonely, a barrier between them and normal people, or at
the worst, gasoline on the fire of a very short life.

I'd love to hear more about it though.

Thats disgusting.... I hate places that have service charges then expect you to tip people. Theres only 1-2 places i go to anyways. One i tip 10-15% and the other i dont tip because the service is shit and the waitresses are norm not that nice. Great place to eat on the cheap in the west end though.
