Zombies are being overused but COD: Black Ops gets a pass for the fact the studio's previous game (Note BO is treyarch) World at War also had a zombie mode and it was far more then simply texture swap for zombies. It was it's own game mode where you had to protect a house.

As for zombie games in general. People need to do more creative things with them then simply as mindless AI. Like me personally. I'd love to build a game where you are a Zombie in a group of zombies and you must use/sacrifice your buddy zombies to save your self during an all out attack by AI humans. =)

We need more zombie/survival games like RE: Outbreak...that shit was hard without a guide! Hell, I didn't even need a guide for the 1st two Resident Evils.

Even thought I know this game since I was a little kid (which means when it first launched) I never give it a try. Seems I have to give it a change expecially since it has the best receptions. And since both classic games remakes and zombie games are hot they should make a georgeous HD remake of this cult classic. ^^

The issue is none of the zombie games manage to create real characters and real helplessness. Im waiting for the open world, Oblivion style zombie game with roaming hoards, getting supplies, and the like, with actual interaction with people. That would be amazing.

Truly realistic zombie game? Do not want. Playing the hero will get you killed, so all you'd do is hole up somewhere and hope they don't notice/find you.

If someone really does this, though, I hope they put in permadeath, allowing only one character for each copy of the game, and if you die all you'd be able to do is watch your former player stumble around... (Until you buy another copy, full price.) Gives some real meaning to keeping your character alive.
Bonus points for being able to come across former player characters, with stats and equipment intact - NetHack-style.
