I think Sega already knows there's a rabid fanbase that wants Shenmue III. Their problem would be marketing it to a larger audience.

Considering how out of touch companies seem to be with their fanbase coughcapcomcough you never know.

1) Sega would never spend that much money for a Shenmue sequel again, especially with Yu Suzuki gone.
2) There isn't much of a Sega fanbase except for people like us on this forum. Most younger people now don't know how good Sega was in the 90s, and probably think the Saturn sucks because some moron "reviewer" on Youtube parroted something he read on a badly researched "Top 10 Worst Consoles" list.

The reason to get Shenmue on XBLA for me (if it actually exists) is because it will (may) be in HD. That's the only reason for me. I have it for Dreamcast, and in fact I'm playing it right now. Having it in HD and widescreen would be cool, I think. Sega definitely has the power to do that. Perhaps they could remove some of the slowdown, too. I wouldn't buy it simply to have a second version, but because it would be a slightly enhanced version.

However, it was just 4:3 and displayed as upscaled 480p, then that would be pointless for me. If I wanted that, I could just connect my DC to my LCD.

I guess if Yu decided to crowdfund Shenmue III and got 3 millions like the double fine team then Sega might, MIGHT consider covering the rest of the costs since if fans are willing to put 3 millions just to jumpstart development then there might be a market for the game.

The question is, will gamers give that much money?

1) I know what he meant, and that's who I was talking about, though it was more sarcastic. Regardless, if you're 20 years old and you can't afford a $10 game and a $10-30 system, you need to be figuring out what you're going to do with your life.

2) I wouldn't really expect a 10 year old to be playing CoD or Halo online. That's more the pre-teen/teenage/early 20s crowd, which is what I was obviously referring to.



As for Shenmue III, Yu Suzuki should get the rights for the series from Sega and start a Kickstarter project. The funds he would raise would probably make some presidential candidates look twice.
