Suzuki's only option is to licence the IP and he had said as much recently.

3 Million is nowhere near enough, unless you want a point and click puzzler.

It's like all SEGA remake, they all got image leaked over internet.

If you remember well , Jet Set Radio screenshot was leaked in 2010.
There where also an image about Project Berkley II (which is the codename of Shenmue)

It turn to reality just some week ago for Jet Set radio, why not for Shenmue ?
They won't miss any chance to make more money.

The Real Reason we need to all get it is to show Sega we want Shenmue III

This.

I think it is in the works since as people have said it showed up on a certain dev network over a year ago along with Jet Set Radio.

Well, for the discution about the age influence in the game choose, i need to agree mostly with jp. about the teenagers, but there are exceptions, me for example, im 16 years old and play more in my Dreamcast and Mega Drive than in my Xbox 360 (Seaman is awesome O.O). But my friends usually think im an idiot playing these games, they always say to me sell all my SEGA consoles and buy a PS3 to play with Battlefield 3 with them (witch is something i would NEVER do, i really love my these older games, its more likely to me sell my Xbox 360 and buy a 32X and Mega CD), and they can't just see what i see when i'm playing Sonic or Comix Zone or Shenmue, so, that's why i agree with jp., but we can not forget, that always will be people who admire these games.

This brings me to the topic subject, i have the Dreamcast and love Shenmue, if they release a well developed port, i would buy definatelly, but it would need to be at real 16:9, with better controls, patch the slowdowns and use the What's Shenmue demo disk high polygon caracter models.

Thanks

I guess if Yu decided to crowdfund Shenmue III and got 3 millions like the double fine team then Sega might, MIGHT consider covering the rest of the costs since if fans are willing to put 3 millions just to jumpstart development then there might be a market for the game.

The question is, will gamers give that much money?

I'd say yes. But that won't be enough. As I see it, the only chance we got is the one GoH mentioned: Tons of people buying the remakes.

Has that ever happened in the past? That is, has a remake/re-release of a game ever brought back a dead franchise? I think not.

NOPE? Please think again: Outrun was in Shenmue II. (admittedly also in Yu Suzuki Works)
And what became of that? Right.

I'd like to think Sega purposely put Ryo in Sega All-Star Racing not for the sole reason of catering to the series' fans' memories...
At least Sega wouldn't have to print/publish any discs if they go through with this, which probably saves a lot of funding for another venture...?

I'm not sure that that's more than a correlation. I'll probably buy it either way, though.

I think Daytona USA could be classified as such a situation, no? Plus, a remake wouldn't exactly hurt the chances, without it Shenmue is stone cold dead.
